Press Release: Launch of the ‘Aleppo Pathway Initiative’
The disaster-stricken city of Aleppo is going through exceptional humanitarian circumstances as a result of attempts by the Assad regime and its allies to besiege the liberated parts of Aleppo. Assad seeks to use starvation as a weapon of war to force the liberated parts of Aleppo to submit to its control, and is also directly targeting civilians through various types of weapons. Such military attempts by the Assad regime put the lives of over 300,000 civilians remaining in the city at risk.
Assad’s forces and allies continue to conduct airstrikes over the Castillo highway which is the last remaining lifeline for the liberated parts of Aleppo. This is obstructing humanitarian access through the Bab al-Hawa crossing (on the Syrian-Turkish border) to Aleppo through Aleppo’s western suburbs. It is also obstructing the freedom of movement for travellers, the wounded, and the sick.
Assad’s forces and allies continue to bombard Aleppo through air strikes and artillery shelling, targeting civilians as well as service and medical institutions. This is resulting in daily massacres classified as war crimes, at a time when the United Nations has abandoned its obligations to protect civilians.
As a result of these dangerous developments which threaten Aleppo’s survival, we announce the launch of the ‘Aleppo Pathway Initiative’ which aims to strengthen the resistance of civilians and rebels in Aleppo in every possible way against the attacks by Assad and his allies.
This initiative includes revolutionary activists as well as civil and humanitarian organizations in Aleppo. It is an independent initiative and is not affiliated with any political, military, or humanitarian group.
The door remains open for any individual, institution, or organisation which feels a sense of responsibility towards the situation in Aleppo to get involved in this initiative. We hope that we can all be active, influential, and work as one hand to support the resistance in Aleppo.
